March 9, 10, 11, 2001 Monster Jam Update

Wow what a weekend! The little Jeep just wouldn't give up. All the drivers were awesome, everyone just gets better and better each year and the trucks looked outstanding! This year I was the only Lady to compete in the Street Warrior Competition, in fact the only woman competitor of the show so I had many female fans there to cheer me on.

Friday night I was 12th to run and it was a rough ride! The Jeep held together even though the power steering belt was twisted, we tried 3 belts and all of them snapped in half so we ran with the twisted belt. It wasn't the best run I have had with Still Miss Behavin but it was enough for a first place trophy and to qualify me for the finals.

Ken drove Still Miss Behavin on Saturday night and was heading for what looked like a winning run and at the last corner blew the power steering belt (yep the twisted belt let go) and had a heck of a time turning those 36's by hand and ended up with the 2nd. Outstanding job Ken!

Sunday was the best show I have been to, it was the finals for all the events! As both Ken and I qualified in the same vehicle, only one of us could run. Ken insisted on me driving as it is my Jeep. I had the 1st for all of 3 minutes and a friend of ours from Edmonton that we race with frequently, stole it away (good job Robert you definitely earned it!). So I ended up with the 2nd place finish. I can't complain as the ol' yeller Jeep gave me a 1st and 2nd place trophy and Ken a 2nd place trophy and ended up putting a few bucks in our pocket this weekend. All we had to replace was a 3.99 power steering pulley and a 7.00 belt! Let's see a 1st and a 3rd last year then a 1st and a 2nd this year - here's hoping next year is a 1st and a 1st!

For those of you that missed the Sunday show the Monsters did the best job I have ever seen in our Dome. Our venue is too small for them to open up the throttle and really put on a show but when they brought the school bus in for them to jump I knew we were gonna be entertained! All I can say was WWWWOOOOOWWWW! What a show - great finish to the weekend.

Thanks to everyone that came out, without the fans there wouldn't be a show!

Still "Miss" Behavin' crossing the start/finish line
Here's Still "Miss" Behavin' crossing the finish line on Sunday and taking the 2nd place trophy.

Jamie (Lil Guy) Lasseter
Here's Jamie winding it up and going for broke! Go Jamie Go!

Marty McDonald and his wizzy Chevy
Here's Marty making his qualifying run on Friday night!

Shawn Johnson and his Suburban
Who'd a guessed that Chevy Suburban with 1 ton diffs and a big block could fly. For Shawn's first time out he did real good and made it all the way around the track! Way to go Shawn!

Terry McDonald and his Fabulous Ford
I have to say this landing looks like it hurt.

Grave Digger Digger Digger Digger!
Yes that is a school bus in the middle of the Freestyle track! Who says you only ever see outrageous stunts on TV's Monster Jam show? Grave Digger showed us that school buses are for climbing and jumping, and he did it oh so well and oh so often, ending his run at the top of the bus so the crowd could take some great snapshots. What a show he put on for the freestyle, a perfect 30! Goldberg showed some good climbing and jumping of the bus and the Blacksmith gave it a shot too. Monster Patrol was the first freestyle competitor and when he went to climb the bus it moved three feet on him and he tumbled the other way and when he came down he blew the drivers side front tire - it just wasn't Marvin's weekend. The bus was an added bonus to the Sunday show and the drivers all did a phenominal job!

Here's Marvin having his first Freestyle run in Monster Patrol!
Marvin was asked to drive Monster Patrol when the usual driver was unable to make it. After a long drive to collect the truck and getting into Calgary at 5am, he appeared on the Big Breakfast Show with his "borrowed" truck and discovered the transmission was no longer working. By 7 pm that night a new transmission was in place and Marvin was ready for his first evening of entertainment in Monster Patrol. After a few successful very passes in the drag racing lanes he started with an awesome freestyle run and over she went. It was just a bit of a flop during what was starting to be a great donut, back up she went and both driver and Truck were ready for more action. Later at the autograph session we attended Marvin told me this Monster handled much more different to his WildThing Monster Truck as it didn't have a locker and he has never been without. For his first time rolling in a Monster truck I have to say good job Marvin, it could have been worse and we're glad no-one was hurt! He did a great job driving a different truck after spending so many years pilioting WildThing!
